What's your earliest memory of making art?

My earliest memory of making art was drawing on the back of scrap computer paper with a mixed combination of crayons, pencils, and markers.

Did you take a lot of art classes in high school?

I took all the art classes my high school offered, including an AP course that challenged us to develop a unique portfolio.

Why did you choose to attend an art + design school?

I never could picture myself going to a regular university. I wanted all the work I do to be related to art somehow, so an art + design school was always the only thing I seriously considered.

What made you choose CIA?

I chose CIA because of the strength of its Industrial Design major, as well as its close proximity to home. I also loved the surrounding areas, such as the museums and Little Italy.

What made you choose your major?

I chose the Industrial Design major because you get to see your thoughts and ideas develop into actual products that many others will get to enjoy. You also get to apply your creative mind to new technologies.

Is having your own studio important to your education? And how about interaction with classmates, is that important to your education?

Having your own studio is one of the most important things about your education at CIA. It allows you to feel at home while you work and create a space that you always want to be in. You also get to continuously socialize and help fellow students, even when you’re not in a class.

How are your relationships with CIA faculty different than your relationships with your high school teachers?

I was blessed to have amazing high school teachers who were genuinely interested in my work and success. This continued into my time at CIA. The faculty here is always helpful and wants you to succeed.

Have you had any internships? If so, where and how did you like it?

I have interned at The Little Tikes Company and Hasbro. Both were very positive experiences that gave me the opportunity to apply what I have learned at school, as well as learn new things from experience that you can’t get at school.

What one thing about the CIA experience surprised you the most?

I was most surprised by how many working professionals I got the chance to meet and network with during my time at CIA.

How do you like Cleveland?

I love Cleveland. New developments and projects reflect the increasing potential of this city. There are many authentic experiences to be had. With awesome places such as Little Italy, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, and the Cinematheque, Cleveland is a great place to work, live, and be entertained.

What would you say to a high school student considering attending CIA?

CIA will make you work harder than you think you ever could. You will spend many late nights cramming work in to make deadlines, but it is all totally worth it. The amount of growth and development you will experience during your time at CIA is incredible.
