With the January 24 deadline nearing, high school students from as far away as California, Washington, Texas, Utah, and Florida have submitted artwork to 2D3D, CIA’s national art and design contest. Student winners will bring home cash prizes and thousands of dollars in scholarship offers.

To date, students from 107 high schools in 27 states have uploaded digital images and files of their work in four categories:

• Visual arts (drawing, installation, painting, printmaking, sculpture),
• Design (graphic design, industrial design, interior design),
• Integrated media (animation, illustration, photography, video/film), and
• Craft (ceramics, glass, jewelry + metals).

“We are delighted to have talented high school students from across the U.S. submit their work for 2D3D,” said Mark Inglis, CIA’s vice president for marketing and communications. “Especially given the level of originality and technical skill we’re seeing in the art and design pieces that are being submitted.”

Inglis noted that teenage athletes often have numerous opportunities in high school to compete and receive recognition for their efforts, but that is not always the case for teenage artists. “High-caliber competitions in art and design for teens are rare, which is why we created 2D3D. Participation in this competition can motivate students to produce their best work; and the awards and honorable mention recognition are valuable to students applying to college.”

To be eligible, participants must be enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school program that includes ninth, tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade, and must live in the United States. Judging by a panel of CIA faculty members is scheduled to take place from February 10-21; and the announcement and virtual online exhibition opening is scheduled for March 3.
