Cinematheque Presents Carlos, One of 2010's Best Movies

An amazing collection of year-end honors went to this film, which traces the criminal career of the notorious international terrorist Carlos the Jackal.

Olivier Assayas' Carlos, one of the most acclaimed movies of 2010, receives its exclusive local premiere this weekend (January 14 to 16) at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. The film, which traces the criminal career of notorious international terrorist Carlos the Jackal during the 1970s and 1980s, will show three times: Fri 1/14 at 9:10pm; Sat 1/15 at 7:45pm; and Sun 1/16 at 3:15pm.

Originally a three-part, five-hour TV miniseries, Carlos will be shown at the Cinematheque in its theatrical two-hour-and-45-minute cut, the only version available on 35mm film, the format in which the film was shot.

This gripping, exciting French-German production, which stars Edgar Ramirez as Carlos, has racked up an amazing collection of year-end honors, making it second only to The Social Network as the most acclaimed film of 2010. Among the plaudits, it was:

- The only movie listed on all three 2010 Top Ten lists of The New York Times’ three main film critics, A. O. Scott, Manohla Dargis, and Stephen Holden
- Listed with 2010's second-highest overall score on the review-aggregator site metacritic.com
- Voted best movie of 2010 in the annual Film Comment magazine poll
- Voted second best movie of 2010 in both the indieWIRE Critics’ Poll and The Village Voice Film Critics’ Poll
- Voted best foreign language film of the year by both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (and came in second for best film of the year in the L.A. voting)

Admission to Carlos is $9; Cinematheque members and CIA students & staff $6. The film will show in the Aitken Auditorium of the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Boulevard in University Circle. There is free parking for filmgoers in the adjacent Institute lot on East Blvd.
