CIA Welcomes MOCA to the Neighborhood

MOCA Cleveland has broken ground on its new building near CIA's McCullough building. Completion is expected in the fall of 2012.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland symbolically broke ground on Tuesday, Feb. 8 for its new, $26.7 million building at Uptown in University Circle. The ceremonial groundbreaking was held in the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts, just a block from the MOCA construction site.

“Having MOCA so close to CIA will be a real boon to our students and faculty,” said CIA President Grafton J. Nunes. “We’re looking forward to partnering with MOCA to advance new, emerging art in Cleveland.”

MOCA’s new building, along with CIA’s campus unification project, is among more than $3 billion in projects planned or underway along the upper section of Euclid Avenue known as Uptown.
