Lunch on Fridays: Dan Tranberg: Imperial Material

Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists. This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Join us this Friday as we welcome Julie Langsam who will speak about the legacy and friendship of recently passed artist, writer, and CIA faculty member, Dan Tranberg. Dan was born in Newark, New Jersey on March 5, 1964. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Northern Illinois University and his Master of Arts Degree in Studio Art from Purdue University. Dan published more than 750 articles on art and exhibited his paintings in more than 40 exhibitions. His writing appeared in national and international publications, including Art in America, NY Arts, artUS, BOMB, Glass Magazine, and Art on Paper. He was awarded an Ohio Excellence in Journalism award in 2004 and received Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships in 2002 and 2007. His book, Acrylic Fusion, was published in 2012. As a precursor to the evening’s Memorial and the retrospective exhibition at Bonfoey Seven is Magic, Julie will speak to Dan’s significant contribution to the Cleveland arts community and beyond.

Julie Langsam is best known for her paintings of iconic Modernist buildings designed by celebrated architects such as Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. Langsam’s work playfully negotiates and questions the legacy of modernism on contemporary culture. Julie Langsam is currently an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. This past year Julie has had solo exhibitions at the Richard & Dolly Maass Gallery, SUNY Purchase; Espai 8, Barcelona, Spain; and Gallery Thomas Jaeckel, NYC. Other solo exhibitions include MOCA Cleveland; Reykjavik Art Gallery, Iceland; and Frederieke Taylor Gallery, Michael Steinberg Fine Art and Clementine Gallery all in New York City. She is the recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, and is represented in collections throughout the United States.
