Grants

Grants do not require repayment and are based on financial need. Grants differ from scholarships, which usually require students to meet specific criteria such as academic performance or particiation in specific majors.

Applying for grants

Once you complete and submit your FAFSA, you are automatically considered for certain grant funds. Listed below are just a sampling of grants. Your home state may also offer grants that you may qualify for.

Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are based on financial need, cost of attendance, and your status as a full-time or part-time student. The maximum Federal Pell Grant for the 2023-2024 academic year is $7,395

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

The SEOG grant program offers limited funding ($500) to Pell Grant-eligible students who demonstrate exceptional financial need based on FAFSA data.

Ohio College Opportunity Grants (OCOG)

This grant is based on Ohio residency, college start date, enrollment status, and information submitted on the FAFSA, resulting in an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $3,750 or less and a maximum family income of $96,000 or less. The current amount of OCOG for full-time students at CIA in 2023-24 is $4.700.

CIA Institutional Grants

Cleveland Institute of Art awards need-based grants to students with exceptional need.
