Professor Eugene Pawlowski Wins 2007 Viktor Schreckengost Award

Professor Eugene Pawlowski was honored with the teaching award at the 2007 Commencement Ceremony.

The Viktor Schreckengost award is named in honor of the Institute's beloved and internationally acclaimed alumnus Victor Schreckengost '29, who is known for his groundbreaking work in art and design. He inspired generations of young artists to find their artistic vision and improve our culture.

In November 2000, Viktor Schreckengost was presented with the first Viktor Schreckengost Teaching Award, established in his honor by Institute President David Deming '67. This award is to be presented to current and/or former faculty of The Cleveland Institute of Art in recognition of teaching excellence at the Institute over a period of at least 10 years.

The award is given to an exemplary teacher at the Institute who is dedicated to helping their students both in and out of the classroom. The winner must meet the following criteria:
+ A record of teaching excellence
+ Accomplishment in service to students beyond the environment of the classroom (i.e., mentoring, grants in support of student learning, establishment and support of internships, etc)
+ A distinguished professional record that serves as a model of a working artist for students

The 2007 recipient is Communication Design professor Eugene Pawlowski. Eugene graduated from the Institute in 1965 and began teaching here the following year in Communication Design. He has received several awards including the AIGA 50 Books of the Year, Cleveland Society of Communicating Arts Show, the New York Art Directors and Type Directors Shows, and the Society of Illustrators Show.

Past winners include Richard Fiorelli, Kathy Buszkiewicz, Bill Brouillard, and John Paul Miller.
