The Cleveland Institute of Art is the only independent art-and-design college to be named by the Princeton Review as among the best colleges in the Midwestern United States.

In an annual list published Sept. 1, the Princeton Review named CIA one of the 156 best colleges in the Midwest. This is the fourth consecutive year that CIA earned that distinction. The Princeton Review, a nationally known education service, publishes the annual regional best-of lists, along with a national list of 381 schools select as best in the nation.

Princeton Review editors base their selections on information collected from a survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, as well as by staff visits to schools over the years, and the perspectives of college counselors and advisors whose opinions the company solicits.

“I’m very proud that CIA continues to be recognized by the Princeton Review and, most importantly, by those who take the time to offer such positive feedback for the survey,” said Grafton Nunes, CIA’s President + CEO. “We know that we offer our students an outstanding and rewarding experience. It’s gratifying to continue to be recognized for that.”

The Princeton Review survey also asks students to rate their colleges and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and campus life. Respondents commented that CIA offers “flexibility in exploring other fields of study while pursuing a focused major” and that the school is “a good match for students who dream of becoming a more thoughtful and skillful artist or designer.”

Collectively, the 649 colleges on The Princeton Review's "regional best" lists constitute about 25% of the nation's four-year colleges. The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges, either overall, by region, or in various categories.

The colleges on the Best Midwestern list are located in twelve states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The Princeton Review is an education services company known for its tutoring, test-prep courses, books, and other student resources. The company is not affiliated with Princeton University.
