CIA Industrial Design graduate Scott Colosimo ’04 is revving up the local economy and the motorcycle world with his manufacturing and design company, Cleveland CycleWerks. The company, and Colosimo’s quest to manufacture the bikes here in Cleveland, feature prominently in a report on Cleveland’s creative economy published in autumn 2014 by the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) and the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.

The report, “Forming Cleveland: A Visual Arts, Craft and Design Industry Study,” includes a “case study” about Colosimo titled “Cleveland CycleWerks: Starting Up.” In it, he talks abut the power of good design, the challenges of manufacturing in the U.S., and the draw of living and working in Cleveland.

A sidebar article surrounded by the CycleWerk case study highlights the work of 1972 CIA graduates John Nottingham and John Spirk, founders of the wildly successful innovation firm Nottingham-Spirk, which holds close to 1,000 U.S. and European patents.
