Curator William Busta celebrates 25 years of showcasing Northeast Ohio artists
CIA-related artists are well represented in 25 Years/25 Artists, an exhibition at William Busta Gallery in Cleveland on view from Jan. 3 through Feb. 1.
Busta, who serves on CIA’s advisory board, is celebrating 25 years of curating gallery shows in Cleveland. “In that time I’ve opened approximately 215 shows of my own,” he said as he prepared for the opening of the current exhibition. “It’s just a sort of way of saying thanks and getting people together after the holidays.”
In addition to running his own gallery, Busta has curated exhibitions over the last quarter century for Heights Arts, The Cleveland Artists Foundation, and SPACES gallery. He has been in his current gallery space, at 2731 Prospect Avenue, since 2007.
Each of the featured artists has had a solo show at William Busta Gallery in the last 25 years. Included are CIA graduates Mark Howard '86, Derek Hess '88, Curlee Raven Holton '89, Dexter Davis '90, Kristen Cliffel '90, Timothy Callaghan '99, Cecelia Phillips '05, and Christi Birchfield '06; current faculty member Douglas Sanderson; and former CIA faculty members Don Harvey, Michael Loderstedt, Douglas Max Utter, Kirk Mangus, Eva Kwong, Mary Jo Bole and Lori Ott.
