back to Pre-College

In this course students will gain knowledge of industry-standard techniques, terminology, and how to work in a professional production pipeline.

We will focus primarily on the production of two-dimensional animation, exploring story-boarding, visual development, animation and post production. The final assignment will be a group project. You will learn to communicate effectively with your team and watch as ideas come to life. You will leave this course with a demo reel and an animated short for your portfolio. This class is highly recommended for anyone who wants a better understanding of how to create animated films or hopes to enter the animation industry.

Each day we’ll view a variety of animations and behind the- scenes DVD extras, supplementing our education on the history of popular and underground animation. Hands-on lessons will begin with animating objects to mimic the laws of natural physics through principles like “squash and stretch,” and “anticipation.”

The application will open on February 1, 2018.

A limited number of partial ($250-$1,000) scholarships are offered through the Continuing Education department. CIA partners with Graffiti HeART to also provide scholarships. Students applying for scholarships should submit their family’s 2017 tax return and a personal statement with their application. Award decisions are based on financial need and portfolio strength.
