MY JOURNEY THROUGH FRENCH CINEMA

VOYAGE À TRAVERS LE CINÉMA FRANÇAIS
France | 2016 | Bertrand Tavernier

Veteran French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier, who was a passionate cinephile and film critic before he directed such movies as A Sunday in the Country and ‘Round Midnight, walks us through six decades of classic French cinema that moved him as a filmgoer and shaped him as an artist. Overflowing with anecdotes, insights, opinions, and clips, this exhilarating, very personal essay film (from a man who was once an assistant to Jean-Pierre Melville and a press agent for Jean-Luc Godard) touches on both the famous (Jean Gabin, Jean Renoir, Jeanne Moreau) and the less familiar (Julien Duvivier, Maurice Jaubert). “Not a history lesson...An invitation to take the seat next to a renowned director as he shares the movies that mean something to him.” –Village Voice. Subtitles. DCP. 190 min.

Special admission $12; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $9; no passes, twofers, or radio winners. This film supported by a generous grant from Maison Française de Cleveland.
